My taste in Halloween decor is more vintage/classic/spooky vs. fun/cute. And I have a hard time decorating with orange. Reds, blacks and whites are easier for me to incorporate into my rooms. They are sinister colors, right?
So, this past summer hubby and I sorted through all our boxes in the basement, including the holiday decor. When I was looking at them, I realized that many of my Halloween decorations were small, cute little items that did not come together in a cohesive way. So, I edited and donated some of my decorations. I kept the ones I loved and the ones I knew would work in our home.
But after cleaning everything out, I realized that I did not have a great deal of Halloween stuff. So, I’ve been busy making a few things that hopefully will last from season to season. I tried to make multiples of the same item and/or repeat colors. I focused on simple, bold displays with some repetition in color/shape for impact. It started with my black gravestones, then the white pumpkins.
I made simple changes for a unified (and hopefully scary?) look.
– The big chalkboard – It just needed a new creepy quote.
– My diy cream ware plates – I moved them around a little and added some Halloween plates.
– My grandmother’s milk glass cake stand
– The simple white pumpkins
(I stole a few from my kitchen cart. Don’t worry, the cart is not bare. I found the perfect substitute for that display.)
The rest of the items I needed were easy enough to make:
– Black pine cones (I already owned some pine cones, so I just gave them a coat of spray paint.)
Remember how I hung my creamware plates on the wall using picture hanging strips? It was so simple to change out the white plates for new ones. I love this idea for easy holiday decor!
