Madigan made… an easy DIY vintage scarf craft.
Happy Memorial Day! I hope you are able to enjoy the day off and spend time with friends and family.
As I told you yesterday, I figured that I’d break out some simple red, white and blue décor this weekend and leave it up till the Fourth of July. I already showed you my mini chalkboard bunting and new patriotic quote for the month.
But I also put together a quick table runner for this area of the kitchen, too. For a table centerpiece, I just grabbed a white tray and some red, white and blue pottery that I already owned.
Simple and festive, right? I love how the mix of patterns is patriotic but not in-your-face with stars and stripes. (Not there is anything wrong with stars and stripes… I just like not being so literal.)
I also adore how the plastic tray is translucent enough to show the scarf’s stripes underneath.
How did I make this DIY table runner?
Well, I picked up a vintage striped scarf just this past Saturday thrift shopping with my blog bud Diane from In My Own Style. (I’ll have to show you some of my other thrifting treasures soon, too!)
And I already had this chevron red, white and blue scarf from my fabric stash. Each one was pretty, but not quite long enough to be a table runner. So, why not combine them!?
So, I cut the pretty zig-zag ends off of the sheer scarf. Then, I used fusible bonding tape and an iron to attach the striped scarf overtop the raw, cut edge of the chevron scarf. I repeated the steps on the other end and then it was done.
Yes, making a table runner can be THAT simple!
This might be all the decor I put out for the summer/Fourth of July. I’m thinking about keeping it simple this year.
For more patriotic décor ideas, you might want to check out last year’s decorations. One year ago I made an easy star garland, simple DIY milk glass stars and a fun patriotic printable. Check them out, too!
Also, let’s remember why we are lucky to have today off. Please don’t forget to thank and/or remember a veteran today!
