Madigan made… an oops with glitter glass paint.
Remember my cute glitter painted mason jars that I made this fall to inspire me to drink more water?
Yeah. Well, I wanted to let you know that when we put the large jar in the top rack of the dishwasher… THIS is what happened. Peeling-paint-city. Boo.
I’m not sure what I did wrong here… I followed the paint curing instructions from the manufacturer. My opaque painted glass bowls were cured in the same way and they’ve held up fine in our dishwasher.
I don’t know if the problem was the fact that I used glitter paint OR the fact that I used many, many coats of paint to achieve this thick glitter look. I think the issue might be the latter… the paint layers may have been too thick and needed even more time to cure? Or it was too thick to hold up to heavy washing or heat? I don’t know… but I thought y’all might want to know about this problem I had.
But the good news is that I still have my little painted blue jar and I’ve been hand washing that one (and will continue to do so!). I’ve had no problems with that one when I hand wash it. In fact, when I use the glitter glass/multi-surface paints, I’m probably going to hand wash the pieces to preserve the finish and coat as long as possible.
Because, let’s face it… I have a hard time staying away from glitter and I KNOW I’ll be using that paint again!!
