MAKE: a gorgeous ornament tree.
Do you scour the clearance sales after the holidays, too?
I love looking for bargains after Christmas for decorations and gift ideas for the next year. Last year I scored a bunch of shatterproof ornaments and knew I could make a great craft with them this season.
I originally had planned to make a big ornament wreath. (Similar to the one you’ve seen in prior holiday decor. I broke a glass version of that one a couple of years ago!) But, I started to decorate my kitchen and tree with pastel colors and knew I could use a centerpiece for my kitchen table. So, I made a big tree… and video tutorial showing you how to make one yourself! (video is at bottom of post)
The cone base is made with posterboard and the shatterproof ornaments are light enough not to weigh it down. The key to make this tree stable, as I show in the video, is to be sure to glue the ornaments to each other and the cone.
The addition of a little pastel pink and mint paint brushed over the tree helps to coordinate it with the rest of my pastel holiday decor. (Like the sparkly garland and unicorn snow filled ornaments.)
Setting it on a pale pink milk glass cake stand was the perfect way to show it off and add more height to our table centerpiece.
You may also notice a few updates to my clipboard wall, too! Remember the sparkly cutout shapes I found at the dollar store that I showed you in my holiday haul video? Their red color was not going with the rest of my plans so I covered the shapes with craft paint and glitter in an ombre pastel gradient (pink to purple to blue to mint). To the clipboards I also added sparkly paper, shiny stickers and snowflake shapes. I love the soft and elegant vibe this display adds to our kitchen!
Watch the video below for details on how I made my tree and more details on the clipboards. You can also check out the supply list here for everything you need. If you can wait, I’d consider buying a bunch of ornaments during after Christmas sales like I do! Please note that this post contains affiliate links.
