About

rosy-vintage-teacup-01

Oh. Hi there! Welcome to Rosyscription. (formerly known as Madigan Made.)

What is a Rosyscription? Well, in a nutshell this site is my ‘prescription’ for a rosy and creative life.

Rx: Easy solutions for a simple, creative and (semi)rosy life:

make. dwell. glow. celebrate. repeat as needed.

rosyscription-01

My name is Shannon and I’ve been called the Clark Kent of craft blogging. By day, I am a pharmacist. (Now is the prescription reference making more sense?)  By night, I am a creative soul, looking to share the things I love with you here!

Every day, all day, I am a mom to a bright and bouncy two-year old girl and wife to a cute husband. We live outside of Philadelphia with our fun little dog.

I’m so glad you stopped by my little corner of the internet. What will you find over here? Well, lots of things that I love to do and talk about!

make. dwell. glow. celebrate.

I love to:

  • MAKE:
    • I love making things. Especially DIY projects that are simple and easy on the eyes. And if they are sparkly? Bonus points.
    • I also love to bake and cook. You should be forewarned: I am a novice in the kitchen but I love to experiment with new, easy recipes.
  • DWELL:
    • Through DIY décor, I strive to create a home that is elegant but personal. I love combining vintage and traditional pieces with modern elements to create a simple, clean, yet personalized space.
  • GLOW:
    • I enjoy finding ways to elevate my personal style. I crave simple techniques and products that don’t break the bank and make my life easier.
      • (Full disclosure: I am a derp when it comes to make-up. But I love skincare and other basic beauty topics… and, as always with me, I like to keep things simple!)
    • Aside from an outward glow, I also want to encourage that light in my heart and home to grow, too. Sound corny? Yeah, I know. I can’t help it.
  • CELEBRATE:
    • I want to mark the seasons and events in our lives with simple and thoughtful DIY ideas. You don’t need a lot of knickknacks, money or Pinterest boards to make an occasion special.

Did you catch a theme here? I love ways to make my life simple but personal. I hope you do, too! Why don’t you grab a cup of coffee (or tea or wine?) and stay awhile!

P.S. Are you asking: Why all the roses, Shannon? What’s the deal?

Well, simply put, I love roses and all they represent.

  • I love the real buds and blooms. The way their petals are layered upon each other to create simple and elegant shape? So much depth and texture!  (Did you know? I carried a huge bouquet of deep, red roses on my wedding day.)
  • I love roses and their heady scent. (The real blooms are perfect… but I’m picky about those artificial grandma-y rose smells in products.)
  • If you’ve been to this blog before, you may have noticed that I love vintage rose motifs… Just a little bit! I collect vintage style handkerchiefs and plates faster than a squirrel collects nuts before the winter.  I have vintage roses and other florals plastered around my home like they are going out of style. (On chairs, on purses, on my family room wall, in my daughter’s room, on her burp cloths, etc. I’m sure I’m forgetting some areas here!)
  • I’m a very fair, rosy-cheeked gal. While I love a little flush in my complexion, there are times I struggle with quite a bit of redness in my face, especially after a hot shower, glass of wine or some added stress. (Or sometimes, just because my face feels cranky and decides to turn up the heat on me for reasons I can’t explain!) I recently learned from my doctor that this is a mild form of rosacea. It has sparked my interest in taking better care of my skin as I get older.
  • Ok, this is going to sound very cheesy… but I appreciate the word ‘rosy’ as a state of mind. Most of the time, I consider myself an optimistic and positive person. Rosy, if you will. It is a long story, but my disposition is not always rosy. I’ve experienced anxiety and depressed mood at times in my life. (Especially when we were dealing with infertility issues.)  Finding balance, minimizing stress and staying positive can be a challenge sometimes. So, being rosy is a general goal for me to work towards each day.

Fun Fact: Someday, I’d love to get a small, vintage rose tattoo, perhaps with a little ladybug on the leaf. (Maybe… I’m a big chicken and I’m not too fond of pain… Don’t worry, mom, the odds are stacked against this idea! Maybe.)

Want to know more about me and what I like?

  • Let’s get personal… read more about our infertility story. When we stopped trying and started to live for today, we found out we were expecting! We welcomed Little C into our lives in 2014. She is the. best. gift. I’ve ever received in my life.
  • Besides vintage florals, I have a mild (ok, major) obsession with glitter. I’ve covered all kinds of surfaces with the sparkly dust and I know how to craft with glitter so it does not shed.
  • I love decorating for the holidays – my Christmas home style is simple and elegant. (and I love making a lot of the holiday decorations myself!)  Be sure to check out the holiday home tours from the most recent years:
    • In 2014, we added a white artificial tree to our home.
    • 2013 I used a lot of cobalt blue.
    • 2012 I leaned on traditional red and metallic colors.
    • 2011 was the year I cut up my wedding dress to make Christmas stockings!
  • I enjoy reusing materials in different ways for DIY projects. I’ve covered a table with glass gems and a pumpkin with thumbtacks. I’ve repurposed a spoon rack into a sunglasses holder. I turned a glass bottle into a lamp. Twice.
  • Do you like chocolate? Yeah, me too. I love it with strawberries, in trifles, with salt… and alone, of course!
